The Adal Sheep is a breed of domesticated sheep that was developed in Ethiopia. These are not wool sheep, and are one of the African hair sheep breeds that are specifically adapted to the dry, desiccated climate of its country. The Adal has traditionally been described as “fat tailed” or ‘fat rumped’.
The Azpi Gorri is a breed of rare goats that are found in Basque in Spain. With less than 100 animals remaining, it is considered an endangered breed. Nevertheless, these goats are farmed for the meat than for the milk. Business of these goats is successful in the rural areas. The present day breed ‘Azpi Zuri’ is a variant of the Azpi Gorri.
The Angeln Saddleback is a breed of very rare domestic pigs that originated in Germany. These large size swines were once much popular for their meat, until the demand fell. At present, they are farmed in a very limited area in Germany, especially in the Angeln region, from which it got its name.
The Abacot Ranger is a breed of colorful, domesticated ducks from UK. These hardy birds are usually bred for eggs and meat though, but are presently quite popular for exhibitions. Since these ducks rarely fly, they can easily be kept in spaces and orchards with short fences to protect from predators like foxes.
The Alabio Duck is a breed of domesticated Indonesian ducks. They were developed in Kabupaten Hulu Sungai Utara, in the Kalimantan Selatan region of the country by crossing the pekin duck with the local ducks. The Alabios have been known primarily for their laying ability, until recently they have also been oriented as meat type.
The Aksai Black Pied Pig is a large breed of pigs developed in the mid-eastern country of Kazakhstan. They are known for their distinctive black and white pattern. In some parts of the region, these domestic pigs are still used for agricultural purposes; however, they are mostly bred for their meat.

The Barbari Goat is one of the 20 classified breeds of goats found in India. They are primarily a meat-type breed, but considering the number of animals reported, it is urgent to undertake conservation measures. It has also been surveyed that, most male goats are castrated early in life (within 7 to 30 days), and fattened for slaughtering at religious festivals. However, these live resources have a general mortality rate. They are highly manageable, and can adapt themselves in stall-feeding condition.
The Appenzell Goat is characterized by its pure white look and a strong structure. Originating in the ‘half-cantons’ of the historic regions of the Appenzell, Appenzell Ausserrhoden and Appenzell Innerrhoden, this rare breed spread throughout the neighboring canton of St. Gallen. An endangered indigenous breed, they are primarily known for their milk-producing capacity, and not for meat. Milk-production depends on how much these goats would be taken care of.
